Jorge Pontual is an international journalist deeply committed to the spread of new ideas and the opening up of channels for sharing knowledge.
As a senior correspondent in the US for Rede Globo -Brazil's main media organisation- he has been for the last 13 years the host of long-format interview programs with dozens of leading thinkers, policy makers, scientists and authors in all in a variety of subjects; these include: Kofi Annan, Al Gore, Benoit Mandelbrot, Nouriel Roubini, Jared Diamond, Harold Bloom, Margaret Atwood, Gay Talese, Ray Kurzweil, Esther Dyson, Freeman Dyson, Noam Chomsky, Queen Noor and Wim Wenders, among others.
Jorge's high-profile interviews were published by Editora Globo in the book "Milenio". He has carried out, also for Rede Globo, extensive live coverage of US presidential elections and of international meetings such as IMF, World Bank, G-8, G-20 and global climate negotiations. Jorge is able to explore a wide range of subjects, from politics and economics to culture and technology, Web 2.0 and social media, literature and music.
Jorge has a degree in Sociology from Rio de Janeiro – PUC (Catholic University) and is both a Brazilian and a French citizen, fluent in Portuguese, French and English. Before moving to New York, where he lives with his family, he was an executive-producer of a leading Brazilian TV Documentary programme, "Globo Reporter. He was also the managing Editor of "Jornal do Brasil", one of the country's main newspapers.
As an experienced TV anchor, host and interviewer Jorge has been a mediator in many conferences, introducing the event and guest as well as conducting question-and-answer sessions. He has also experience as a motivational speaker in 12-step programs.
